1/4 Sawn Red Oak
Quartersawn Red Oak features straight Grain with some fleck patterns in the wood. A flake pattern is produced when slicing through medullary rays. The Medullary or “Ray Fleck” in Quartered Red Oak, while more subtle than that of White Oak, becomes more pronounced when the wood is finished. If you do not want ray flake consider specifying rift cut Oak. The wood is wheat to pink in color and finishing nicely.

1/4 Sawn White Oak
Quarter Sawn White Oak heartwood is variable in color and ranges from light tan or pale yellow brown to pale or dark brown. The sapwood is Quarter Sawn White Oak which is whitish to light brown in color, and is variable in width. Quarter Sawn White Oak typically has very straight grain and the creation of a “tiger stripe” effect that runs through the grain. These iridescent silver “stripes” are known as ray flecks. A flake pattern is produced when slicing through medullary rays.

Ash
Ash has a medium to coarse texture, similar to Oak. The grain is straight and regular but can sometimes be moderately curly. The heartwood is light to medium brown color.

Beech
Beech will vary in color tones from light tan to reddish brown, creating some color variation when finished. Beech will also have some pin knots and sap streaks. Variations in color and graining of Beech are commonplace and Koch Cabinets will not be responsible for color or grain variations between a sample block and the complete order.

Cherry
Cherry is moderate in hardness and strength with a fine to medium grain pattern. Cherry will darken in a short period of time. When ordering your door, understand it will be lighter in color than a sample block. The age of the color block will determine how much lighter. In addition, this sample does not display a true picture of the characteristics of the wood but only the basic color tone. Cherry has wide variations in grain and can contain some white areas that, even when stained, will be lighter than the basic red color.

Clear Alder
Alder is a soft wood, known for its straight grain and even texture. Its color can range from light red to reddish brown. Alder dents easily and having softwood and hardwood characteristics, will absorb excess stain creating dark areas but also absorb minimal stain creating light areas. This variance is not considered a defect. Alder may display pin knots, grain fuzz and mineral streaks.

Hem Fir
Hem-Fir is white to a light straw color, sometimes with a slight lavender cast, especially around the knots and the growth rings.

Hickory
Hickory is sought after by those desiring unpredictable grain patterns and vast differences in color. The colors in Hickory can range from white to reddish or dark brown and will appear randomly giving it a calico appearance. Hickory is extremely hard with a high shock resistance. Mineral streaks appear naturally and are not considered defects. Burls, water stains and sound knots can also be be a characteristic. Hickory lends itself to lighter stains that accentuate the color variations contained naturally in the wood. Darker stains will tone these variations somewhat.

Knotty Alder
Knotty Alder will contain natural sound defects and possess all inherent characteristics of Alder. Minimal color or grain matching is done to preserve strong character. Characteristics that will be represented are mineral streaks, natural color variations, grain variations and sound knots. There will be a random blend of knots and burls. The amount, size and placement of natural characteristics will vary, and the consistency (or lack of) is not considered cause for replacement.

Birch is a smooth, even grained hardwood that is predominantly off-white with some brown variation giving it a calico appearance. Birch cabinets with a wiping stain will not be consistent in color. MDF Primed
Medium density fiberboard – MDF- is a high grade, composite material that is made from recycled wood fibers and resin. MDF is machine dried and pressed to produce dense sheets of material that stands up well to changes in heat and humidity.

Paint Grade Poplar
Paint Grade Poplar is a smooth, even grained hardwood that may contain: narrow staves, sapwood, heartwood, and all other natural characteristics commonly found within this species. This grade is specifically intended for a painted finish and is significantly harder than other paint-grade woods. Skins and panels may be made from engineered wood products.

Clear Pine
Pale yellow with deep yellow to reddish-brown heartwood. Straight grained, uniform texture. Light; soft; works easily but resin exudation can be problematic. Stain control is recommended.

Rustic Plank Poplar Wood Veneer is an affordable way to make a rustic looking project. Poplar can be found all around Europe. Rustic Plank Poplar is knotty random planked with mineral streaks.

Rustic Red Oak

Sapele

Stain Grade Poplar
The sapwood of Poplar is creamy white and may be streaked, with the heartwood varying from pale yellowish brown to green. The green color in the heartwood will tend to darken on exposure to light and turn brown. Poplar may have small sound knots & burls as well as slight mineral streaks. Dark stains are best for the stain grade Poplar.

Walnut
Walnut is considered a rare wood type, and it is quite durable and strong. Its coloration can be light to chocolate brown, and may contain burls, butts, and curls.

White Oak
White Oak, an American hardwood, ranges in color from a very light color to a light to dark brown heartwood. White oak is much harder and heavier than the Red Oak. White oak is characterized by a mostly straight grained wood with a medium to coarse texture.

White Oak, an American hardwood, ranges in color from a very light color to a light to dark brown heartwood. White oak is much harder and heavier than the Red Oak. White oak is characterized by a mostly straight grained wood with a medium to coarse texture.
